Hospital program is no PARTY for school kids

Hospital program is no PARTY for school kids

The Royal Perth Hospital P.A.R.T.Y (Prevent Alcohol Risk Related Trauma in Youth) program, the first of its kind ever implemented in Australia, shows teenagers what happens in real-life trauma situations.

Based on a Canadian model, this unique education program gives school students real insight as they are escorted through the Emergency Department, the Intensive Care Unit and the rehabilitation ward.

They see real road crash scenarios and are taught about the effects of a road crash on the body. Students even get to meet patients and see the harsh reality of head and spinal injury.

Most trauma presentations are people in the 15 – 24 age group and this program aims to curb risk-taking behaviour and ultimately save lives.

First introduced at RPH in 2006, other leading hospitals across Australia have since looked to emulate the program.
